End of Topic Summary

Kia ora, This is my summary of this topic for this term.

Our first thing is DNA is what makes us look different. DNA is what makes us have our colored eyes, our different skin colors, how much hair we have, and our ear shape. DNA carries our genetic code which I will get to soon. Genes are something we get from our descended ancestors or our parents. People may come up to you and say “Oh my goodness, you look just like your father,” While others will say “You are identical to your mother!” That’s how people see us. Some may look more like their dad because their dads genes are stronger. Lets just say their dad has brown eyes and their mum has hazel eyes. If their eyes turn brown rather than hazel it may be because the brown eye genetics might be very strong on the dads side and takes over the mums genetic code. Every gene has different versions of itself and that is called alleles. Allele is two mutated cells that are combined. Inheritance is your parents’ offspring going into you. A Punnett square predicts the allele combos in the parents’ offspring.

A Trait is a characteristic that is decided by our genes. Natural selection is when a living thing choses a significant other that has a better advantage in surviving in the wild with predators. Survival is when animals need to use their resources to survive. Reproduction is when two living things like eachother enough to have a baby together. Evolution is things living on earth changing with the earth and getting to know how the world works.

The Pedestrian

Kia ora, Today in English we have been learning about a book called “The Pedestrian”. We have done multiple activity’s based around this book. This is one of them.

Questions Answers
How does the author show that Leonard Mead values authen\tic imagination over engineered imaginations? Because he uses his creativity in books while others hardly use theirs because they are always on the tele.
Why doesn’t Leonard Mead fit into his society? Because he believes in books and reading instead of watching.
Judging from the author’s tone on the subject matter, what message (theme) is he trying to send to the readers? It is telling people that if we glue ourselves to screens and focus on social media we will have rotted brains and will have a rotted and dead community.

Drawing in Pairs

Kia ora, Last week we played drawing in pairs. The rules are you choose a photo you want your partner to draw and you describe the photo to your friend who is facing away from you.

I think that me and my friend played pretty well and drew the picture really well. The two effected areas of Hauora that were effected were Taha Whanau and Taha Hinengaro. I was socializing really well and communicating well. I was also really enjoying the activity we were doing.

Athletics

Kia ora, Yesterday our school had our athletics day. The events I participated in was Long jump, Shotput, and 1500m sprint.  I came first in my age group for the 1500m sprint, and I’m not quite sure how well I did in the other two events.

I think my friends supporting me and people running with me as support really helped me. I think some of the changes that could of been made was more speakers around the school and making the age groups year groups instead of the year you were born.

Health Wero/ The Chocolate game

Kia ora, In Health today we are trying to discuss why Izzy decided to shop lift. Using P.I.S we are going to solve why she is using these actions.

Izzy comes from a broken household (split parents). What factors influence Izzy to steal from a shop. Izzy is 12..

Personal. She might be feeling upset, mad and she maybe disagreeing with her parents divorce and wants to rebel.

Interpersonal. Her relationship between her and one of her parents might be out of order, or one of her parents have gone M.I.A, or she blames one of the parents.

Societal. She might be trying to show that the divorce has effected her deeply and she wants attention. She might feel broken and want help but doesn’t know how to ask.

The Chocolate game.

Last week me and my friends played the chocolate game. The rules of the game is pretty simple. You and your friends sit in a circle around a block of chocolate and roll a dice. If you role a six you have to put on many pieces of clothing and cut the chocolate piece by piece with a knife and fork. If another person rolls a six you need to take off the clothing and stop cutting the chocolate. In my opinion the game is better to play at a birthday party then with all you classmates. It’s less awkward and its funner to play because the dice goes around quicker. Overall the game was played fairly and I had fun playing.

The Landlady diary entry

27/2/25

Dear Diary, I have a new guest staying. I’m pretty excited about it because I haven’t had anybody staying in a while. It was a pretty concerning experience because he nearly found out about the other two. Good thing he is knocked out asleep in his room. I drugged him. But it was for the best, he would have gone to the third floor and I can’t have that. Anyways, hopefully he is out of here in the morning, or he won’t leave at all.

The Landlady

Kia ora, These past couple weeks me and my class have been writing what we think happened at the end of the book “The Landlady”. This is my ending of the story and what I think happened.

“Only me?” I asked, “yes only you darling,” she said with an evil looking grin on her face. I immediately felt ill at ease. I then stood up and told her I’m going to go upstairs to grab my car keys, “Oh yes dear, do what you need to do,” I then ran upstairs to my room and locked my door. I was terrified. I started pacing in my room, alone with my thoughts.. It had hit me. I had a splendid idea. I was going to leave my room, go upstairs to the third floor and use my key to try to get in. I thought of a plan, I would wait until the landlady goes to make dinner and that’s when I’ll sneak to the third floor.

The night arrived. It was only minutes until she was on her way to the kitchen. I heard the kitchen door creak. That was a sign she had gone into the kitchen. I then silently unlocked my door and rushed upstairs. I had found one of the boys’ rooms and opened the door as quietly as I could. I was horrified. All of the boy’s insides were hanging from the roof, sewn together with his intestines. I turned to my left and saw him, stuffed with cotton. He had been taxidermied. “Have you had fun playing your little game?” that was a sentence I did not want to hear. “ Don’t ignore me, I’m listening dear,” I turned to see her looking at me with an upset face. I then blacked out and never saw the light again..

Reflection Blog post Water pong.

Kia ora, Last week we played water pong.  How we played was we set up cups in a triangle shape filled them with water and threw the ping pong balls into the cups. The rules of the game is there are two teams. The first team has two ping pong balls. If they land the ping pong ball in the cup they drink the water or liquid in the cup.

The two areas of hauora that were affected by participating in the game was Taha Tinana and Taha Whanau. My Taha Whanau was effected by me socializing with my peers. My Taha Tinana was effected by me throwing the ball and walking around. Fairness was shown by people removing the correct amounts of cups. I feel I participated well in this activity.
